How To Get Your National Senior Certificate

Here is the general roadmap to getting certified:

1. Register and Complete Grade 12: You must be a registered learner at a public or independent school (or registered as a private candidate).

2. Complete Your School-Based Assessments (SBA): Your marks throughout the year (assignments, tests, and projects) usually count for 25% of your final grade. Do not ignore these!

3. Write the Final Examinations: You must write the final NSC exams at the end of the year.

4. Meet the Minimum Pass Requirements: To pass the NSC, you generally need to achieve:

• 40% in your Home Language.
• 40% in two other subjects.
• 30% in three other subjects.
• A sub-minimum of 20% in the final subject.

Note: Higher marks are required for Bachelor’s (University) or Diploma entrance.
